Teacher's Guide: Geometry Quest

Geometry Quest uses a 3-step puzzle format to teach area and perimeter. In each puzzle, students first identify whether they're solving for area or perimeter, then build the correct formula using tiles, then calculate the answer. This three-step scaffold mirrors how strong problem-solvers actually approach geometry — it's designed to build process, not just answer-getting.

What shapes does the game cover?

The game covers rectangles, squares, and right triangles — the shapes specified in Grades 3–5 Common Core geometry standards. Each puzzle type appears multiple times with varied dimensions to prevent pattern-matching.

Is there a way to see how students are doing?

The game shows a running score for correct and incorrect answers. There is no teacher dashboard. For formative assessment, observe students working or have them explain their Step 1 and Step 2 choices verbally before submitting.

How long does a session take?

Each puzzle takes about 1–2 minutes. Most students complete 8–12 puzzles in a 15-minute session. The game loops through new puzzles indefinitely — set a timer or puzzle count target for students.
